Maria Grazia Chiuri is an Italian stylist who is now the artistic director of Dior's women's collections.
After her studies at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome, she has worked for other major luxury brands such as Valentino and Fendi.
The issue of women's rights is particularly close to her heart.
Christian Dior presented its first fashion show on February 12, 1947 at the 30 rue Montaigne in Paris. It was an immediate success. He redesigned women's silhouettes by marking their waists and emphasizing their shapes in opposition to the pre-war style: he created the New Look.
After his death in 1957, many designers succeeded one another at the head of Dior's artistic direction, including Yves Saint Laurent, John Galliano, Raf Simons and finally Maria Gracia Chiuri, the first woman to hold this position.
Women have always been at the center of Dior's concerns. Christian Dior used to compare them to flowers and even said, "After women, flowers are the most beautiful thing God has given to the world".
And the feminist discourse of the house continues with Maria Gracia Chiuri. She sets the tone in her 2017 spring-summer fashion show where she presents a "we should all be feminist" t-shirt. Her commitment continues today with a series of videos giving women a voice with the hashtag #Diorstandswithwomen and #Diorchinup.
That's why she is coming this week to talk about the place of women in the fashion industry, click on the button below if you're interested in this conference.
